Reason to Believe

The daily prompt Reason to Believe made me think of this whole blogging experience. I sometimes feel really behind at this – not sure how to do things like tagging or adding widgets or pingbacks. Every day when I get the new assignment on Blogging U, I get a little more discouraged, like I’m the last person in a race…

But then I remember this is not a race, it’s an opportunity for me to express myself and hopeful connect with other people. I remember why I started this – to share proverbs that I find meaningful, and here’s one for this situation: What you make with your hands, do not break with your feet.

This proverb talks about resisting the urge to sabotage oneself. That not everything is easy, and some things that are wonderful and worthwhile are also HARD – at least initially. To accomplish anything takes focus, effort and the belief that you can do it. You have to stick with it, and be really careful that you don’t become the obstacle in the path of your own success.

Right now for me, that means that I need to keep at it and learn how to use all of the deliciousย  tools WordPress has to offer, which brings me back to the daily prompt. After all, I started this process because I believe I have something to say and share, and I believe blogging is a great way to do that.ย  I also believe I am capable of learning, even things that are hard for me.

What you make with your hands, do not break with your feet – time for me to get my hands and feet to work together, have my next cup of coffee, and add a widget!

  1. You are so right. I think sometimes a person is so “in your own head” that you don’t give yourself enough credit for being out there and already ‘doing it’… “It” being the thing you think you can’t do. So stick with it – you are doing it. Pretty soon adding a widget will be like adding sugar to your coffee! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Great post! Yes, it’s very easy to have that ‘last person in the race’ feeling. I really liked the quote – it’s not one I have come across before. Thank you for your post ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck with your widget adding.

  3. This is a great response and a really interesting proverb.
I’m glad you explained it, as I wouldn’t have gathered that meaning from it at all. However the meaning you do put across about not sabotaging yourself, is something that really relates to me. I am often guilty of that. I try to get myself into a good position in my battle with depression, and then I go and destroy everything again.
I must learn not to do that. Easier said than done ๐Ÿ˜‰

P.s. you’re right, blogging is not a race, keep at it. If this post is anything to go by, you’ll do well at it. Good luck and more importantly enjoy it!

  4. Great post! Learning something new can certainly be a challenge at times. Sometimes the difficult part is the pressure we place on ourselves in thinking that it should come easily to us because we think it was easy for everyone else who has already done it. We have absolutely no idea how easy or difficult others found the task. We can only know about ourselves. Thanks for the inspiration to keep going.. and good luck on those widgets!

  5. Love this for so many reasons! I’ve been there and I needed to hear this! I actually have never heard of this proverb before. I will always remember it! This post was long enough to make it worth reading and short enough to say exactly what needed to be said. It is packed full of little knowledge nuggets. Thank you!๐Ÿ˜ƒ
